Welwyn 3's hosted Tring 3's this weekend and for the 2nd week on the trot the 3rd team steamed into the opposition and scored the 1st points of the game. Unfortunately that was the highlight as far as Welwyn were concerned as Tring quickly worked out they could go past Welwyn on the outside every time they attacked. Considering that only 1 player was under 40 in the welwyn pack they competed very well against a team in which 2 players were old enough to shave. Next week Welwyn 3's travel away to UCSOB's (University College Old Boys) a tough fixture against a club with a strong contingent of southern hemisphere players.

Welwyn turned up on Sat to play Hemel Hempstead but found themselves playing Sydney exiles!! The ref was no comfort ater the game when he revealed that 4 of the Aussie's were returning home on wed and if we had played them next week we would have fared alot better! You know how local the opposition players are when the come out of the shower and ask you, the visiting team, "g'day mate which way to the bar? All in all another unsatisfactory result. Can we please find some centre's!!!!!

how is it that 2 weeks ago there were 2 props in the club and today the 3's took to the field with 4??? Harpenden came with a competent team and a simple game plan whereas Welwyn took to the field with a simple team and no game plan! we had too many players out of position and paid the penlalty for it. Mevans showed what 2 years studying at Oxford had taught him and left the field shortly before half time to empty his stomach and then sit around feeling sorry for himself until 15 mins to go. During this time we leaked tries all over the place, had a player sin binned and strived with 13 to hold the Harpenden Horde. Alas it was not to be and the final score ws 43-5 to Harpenden. Hemel away next week with hopefully a team of players in their correct positions and at least 1 sub???

Welwyn's 3rd team opposition this week were Barnet 2's who had been relegated from the league above at the end of last season. Things did not start well for Barnet who only turned up with 14 men. Things proceeded to go from bad to worse as Welwyn scored 2 quick tries inside the first few minutes to effectively kill the game. Scores flowed from the Welwyn backs to give a half time score of 50-0. Substitutions and injuries on Welwyn's part then contrived to make the 2nd half more competitive with both sides at 14 men. Final score 65-17 to Welwyn and all players committed to train on Tuesday prevented another 2nd half mini collapse. Man on the match was Adam Boland and the 3's now look forward to playing Harpenden at home next week

Welwyn scorers: J.Lynch (1T), C.Gunnell (2T), A.Boland (1T)
Welwyn 3rd XV first league game of the season saw them hosting Enfield Ignations with a fantastic 24 - 5 scoreline to the hosts. Enfield came with a large pack but their fitness was not up to that of the Welwyn boys who slowly wore their opposition down producing tries scored at regular intervals from James Lynch, two from man of the match Craig (Sally) Gunnell and first of the season from Adam Boland after promotion to the 3's . James Lynch demonstrated some of Welwyn's dominating flair by even attempting a drop goal from the half way line which just dropped short. New boy Josh had a good game in the back row as all the backs prooved they were a class above their opposition. Welwyn 3's next game is at home to Barnet Elizabethans 2nd XV this coming Saturday.
