Welwyn 2nds played away to local rivals and table toppers Old Albanians 3rd XV this weekend. Looking for that elusive first win of the season unfortunately it wasn't to be with Welwyn loosing 64 - 0. In a match with very few positive for the travelling side, Man of the Match Joe Burns produced some strong runs a positive sign for forthcoming performances from the talented second rower. Welwyn 2nd XV play Bishops Stortford 3rd XV next Saturday at Hobbs Way.

Welwyn once again welcomed Poblenou Enginyers from Barcelona for their Abbot (Super Premiere) Merit Table match. The first half was a close affair with Welwyn failing to convert at least 2 good try scoring chances. The Welwyn forwards were playing well and dominating the scrums, against that the Spanish backs looked very strong when they had the ball in hand. The 2nd half changed all that when the game went into uncontested scrums, this negated the Welwyn power base and enabled Barcelona to bring on a tall thin, easy to lift, 2nd Row. The Spanish gained much more ball from the Scrums and the line outs which enabled them to release their dangerous backs. A good display from a number of younger Welwyn Players with even the Veteran Welwyn Lock, Austin Cox, managing to put in what must have been the 1st high kick of his career.
As always with the Enginyers the after match entertainment was excellent, with Welwyn winning the post match games. It is always a please to welcome the side from Barcelona at Welwyn and the 2nd team look forward to the return match in February.

Welwyn scorers: J.Humphreys (1T), A.Harcourt (1C), A.Ginty (1P)
Welwyn 2nd XV travelled away to North West London side UCSOB an invitational side with a large contingent of players from the Southern hemisphere. Despite losing 45 - 10 Welwyn battled hard and certainly didn't let the hosts have it al their own way with a well deserved try for man of the match Jamie Humphreys with a successful conversion from Adam Harcourt. Adam Ginty also put his name on the score sheet for Welwyn with a well taken penalty kick.
