Warriors Give Luke a winning send off!

After 4 tears coaching Welwyn Warriors, Luke Williams has decided to move on to pastures new and Sunday's league match at Hobbs Way, was his last in charge of the girls team. With both teams hit hard by injuries, the match was a 13 a side affair.

Warriors got off to a flyer with Alex Robertson and skipper Hannah Gallagher scoring early tries. Hannah Marques was in sublime form and relishing her new role as flanker! 3 times Marques won ball and crashed through the Surrey defence to set up tries for Megan Williams (2) & another for Alex Robertson. At 33-0 Warriors looked in control but some silly play on their own try line gifted a try to Surrey who now started to look like a team and began to battle Warriors all over the field. 33-5 at Half time soon became 40-5 when Robertson completed her hat trick. Back came Surrey with another try 40-12. Still the match was slogged out in the centre of the pitch as both sides traded possesion. Warriors made another neat break and Emily Matuszczyk stormed through to make the score 45-12. That's 2 wins out of 2 for the Welwyn girls!

In the final minute Alex Robertson raced back to prevent a certain try and badly injured her shoulder. Yet more injury woes for the Warriors. Nothwithstanding the injury, a great all round performance from the team, Frankie Dawson, Geri Thomas & Ema Burgess were in uncomprising form and Tia Arberry and Charlie Sims made great runs all day making it hard for Surrey to defend. The space they created gave space which flying winger Charisse Fallon could exploit! Man of the Match though was Mel Harcourt, now back to her battling best, fantastic in the line out and the pack! her County recall clearly doing her good!

Next up Aylesford at home in 2 weeks time. If Warriors can notch up win number 3, it will set things up nicely in the new year when Warriors face league favourites, Havant in Januray & Wimborne in April.
