Good News on Saturday. The 1st team beat Bury St Edmunds on Saturday, this means we can not be relegated now! Mind you, it was very close as London Nigerians were beating Ruislip on Saturday until Ruislip scored a converted Try with the last move of the match to win 30-29. If Nigerians had have won we would have had to go down to Ruislip and beat them there on Saturday.
The 1sts played very well again on Saturday and never looked like losing, great display and a well deserved victory. The final score of 29-21 was a fair reflection of the game and, in fact, it could have been greater. Well done to everybody involved. It would be great if we could end the season by beating Ruislip. There is no doubt that when the lads play to their potential they can beat or stretch every team in this division. Well down Guys!
The above victory was achieved with not inconsiderable encouragement from The VP's who had had a splendid lunch and had well lubricate vocal cords.
The 2nds lost 34-25 away to Old Albanians 3rd team.
The 3rd Team won away at Newmarket. We think the score was 20-5, whilst the ref said it was 18-5. Take your pick on that one.
The 4ths, unfortunately, lost 21 - 28 at home to Hemel Hampstead 3rds in the first round of their Merit Table Cup and the 5ths lost 60 - 13 in their 1st round game in the Merit Table away to OMT 2nds. I understand that OMT's 2nds were, in fact, their Colts team. That is just not a nice thing to do to some of the older members (Bob Dawson, I promise not to mention any names) of the 5th team. This means that both the 4ths and 5ths now go into the plate competition.
Their were some great results in the Mini's yesterday. Our Under 8 A team won the Hertfordshire County Cup beating Old Albanians in the Final. This is the second successive season they have been crowned County Champions. Also our newest team, Our D team won the Hertfordshire County Bowl which is a magnificent achievement bearing in mind most of these players have only been playing for 6 months. The under 7's teams fought heroically but did not manage to progress past the pool stages with the B team narrowly missing out on a place in the Plate Semi Final
Excellent stuff Guys, it's great getting these results and performances.
I'm sorry to say that I don't have details of the outcome of yesterdays triangular tournament with Killkenny and Old Albanians (if I had stayed a the club any longer yesterday after the VP's the day before there could have been doctors involved!). The lads from Killkenny had a great time and it was wonderful to see them down at the club on Saturday and Sunday. I understand that our under 10's are planning on a trip to Killkenny next year which would be a wonderful trip.
I also don't have The Warriors result from yesterday. I'm sure that Dave Marques will post that very soon.
Our Colts beat Hemel Hampstead at Welwyn yesterday, sorry but I don't have the score to hand on that one. From reports in the club house the lads gave a very good gutsy performance.
As I have mentioned previously I am happy to include any reports, scores etc in this newsletter but I do need to have them forwarded to me by sunday evening - swindelb@aol.com
The Race Night went off pretty well, there could have been more members attending but it did raise a very good amount for the club. Great Job by all those involved. Thanks very much for that Guys.
Nigel is still looking for volunteers to help on the Family Fun Day on the 27th July, 2008. His idea is to have a ride/stall ran by each team. Could all team captains/Managers please contact Nigel Parker accordingly.
The VP's Lunch went very well on Saturday, we had 4 Members from Bury St Edmunds with us and it was good to hear them say how much they enjoyed our club (even after we had won). The food went down very well as did the Beer and Wine and in the case of Conor Byrne and his Gang the Port! Which including force feeding the Vice Chairman a glass of port, it is just not fair that this behaviour takes place! The atmosphere at the club on Saturday was excellent all day from the pre-lunch drinks, throughout the game and the post match celebrations. We had 73 attendees at the lunch and will be looking to improve on that number next year onCe everybody hears what great day it was.
ONCE AGAIN, I WOULD REMIND YOU THAT THE TICKETS FOR THE DINNER AND DANCE ARE SELLING OUT AT A VERY RAPID PACE. THERE AREN'T THAT MANY LEFT. IF YOU DO REQUIRE TICKS PLEASE CONTACT JANE, CATH OR BOB AS SOON AS YOU CAN.
That's about it for this week, as I said earlier, The 1st Team are away at Ruislip on Saturday and would really appreciated any support that you can give. It is their last match of the season so it would be a good thing to get some members down to cheer them on.
