After reading last weeks notes I noticed that it read like The Gruniad did before they installed a spell-check or bought a thesaurus, whatever it was it took some of the excitement out of reading The Guardian!
No 1st team game this week but that doesn't stop me pushing for attendance at the club for this Saturday's game against Bury St Edmunds. As I am sure you are aware by now, this is a BIG must win game for the 1st. Please do come down on Saturday to Support the Club.
In addition to the 1st team game, which kicks off at 15:00hrs there is a Under 12's game as a curtain raiser, Bury St Edmunds have kindly agreed to send their under 12's down so please do get down earlier to see the mini's perform.
50/50 on the results from Saturday:
The 2nds lost 13-12 to St Albans, Nick Brown and Ben Solez scored a try each with Luck Williams adding a conversion. Tight game especially as the winning points were only scored with the last kick of the game!!!!
The 3rds beat Upper Clapton 47-10 in the Semi Final of the Cup and now play Ely in the Final at Upper Clapton on the 26th April. Good win Guys, there are rumours that the 47 points included a humongous Drop Goal from J Lynch.
The 4ths lost 43-12 to Cheshunt, sorry guys but I haven't any details of the Welwyn Scorers. They are playing Hemel Hampstead in the cup this week - good luck with that one Guys. Our best wishes also go to Tiff who is currently in Hospital - Take care Tiff, we are all thinking of you.
The 5ths beat Fullers away 18-0 tries from Lee Lewis and (I hate to say this but....) Bob Dawson - nobody has told me how many side steps and outrageously exaggerated dummies that included! I also hear that Adam Boland kicked one conversion and 2 penalties. This was also a cup match and they have OMT's in the next round.
There were no other games at the weekend due to somebody forgetting it was April - if it snows this Saturday with the VP's lunch on, there may be some very cold people waking up in a corner of the field at some time during the day, evening or night! There may still be some VP's tickets available, please contact Conor - cjb@iceict.net if you want a ticket.
THE TICKETS FOR THE DINNER AND DANCE ARE SELLING OUT VERY QUICKLY, IF YOU WANT TO GO OR ORGANIZE A TABLE I SUGGEST THAT YOU CONTACT JANE PETERKIN, CATH SWINDELL OR BOB SWINDELL VERY SOON WHILST THERE ARE STILL TICKETS AVAILABLE.
Don't forget that there is a Race Night at the Club this Friday (11th April, 2008).
Nutty is still waiting for volunteers for the Family Fare on the 27th Jul, 2008, please contact him if you are able to help.
There was a meeting a little while ago organised by the RFU and entitled "Development Plan Workshop" where a large number of suggestions were put forward. We are looking for Volunteers to move this on. It is better that that this next step is driven by non committee members (Both Main and Players) as these groups already have input into the club. In this way, whilst the players committee and main committee will still have a say, we are able to draw on a far wider group within the club to work upon what was discussed. Remember, it is your club and we do depend on Volunteers. We only need 4 or 5 members for this, please consider helping accordingly.
